Champions Weekend returns to two of Ireland’s premier racecourses, Leopardstown
and the Curragh, on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th
September where the best in the world will meet for a top-class weekend of
racing, entertainment and style. Now in its fifth year, Longines Irish
Champions Weekend is the pinnacle of the Irish flat racing season and will see
horses, trainers and jockeys compete at the highest level.
event has established itself as Ireland’s most premium and social racing event,
both on and off the track. Not only is there €4.8 million in prize money up for
grabs, but racegoers will be treated to music by two of Ireland’s biggest bands,The Riptide Movement and Hermitage Green.
On Saturday 15th
of September, broadcaster and social media personality Doireann Garrihy will spin the decks throughout the day and Lucan
band The Riptide Movement will take
to the stage at Leopardstown to perform their biggest hits, including ‘Elephant
in Room’, ‘All Works Out’ and ‘Getting Through’, rounding out what is set to be
an incredible days racing with an equally entertaining evening of music.
the Curragh on Sunday 16th September can enjoy a post-race performance from Hermitage Green. Hailing from
Limerick, Hermitage Green is an Irish acoustic Folk Rock band that has
enjoyed a busy summer gigging across Europe. Over the past few months alone, the
band has played alongside the likes of Gavin James, Walking On Cars and The
Pogues and their performance is set to be a highlight of the weekend.
The first of the two-day event will take
place at Leopardstown (Saturday 15th Sept) and will feature some of
the best Flat racing in the world. The QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes and the Coolmore ‘Fastnet Rock’ Matron Stakes are
the two Group 1 races on the opening day of Longines Irish Champions Weekend
and share top-billing at Leopardstown. A prestigious eight-race card
offers a total prize fund of €2.45
million and features five group races, a new listed contest and two
high-class handicaps, each valued at €150,000.
Day two of Longines
Irish Champions Weekend will see festivities move to the Curragh Racecourse (Sun
16th Sept). This event is set to be full of fun for all the family
with plenty of activities for the kids alongside top class racing at the home
of Ireland’s classics. There are four Group 1 races on the eight-race card and
pride of place goes to the Comer Group International Irish St Leger,
the final Irish Classic of the season.
